I'm too poor to afford eating out, even the basics at McDonald's is too expensive for me. (Besides, most places that offer cooked meals don't accept food stamps. LOL)  Maybe someday, I'll find a decent paying [desk] job...

Anyway, last night, I attempted to make perogies.  The filling was good, and while I fought with the dough (I think I did something wrong while making it), they turned out pretty good.  Next time, I might try adding a bit more oil to my frying pan to crisp them up a bit.  So tonight, I'm taking the five metric tons of potato and cheese filling I have left over, and I'm going to attempt potato cakes.... or something...

Decided that's how I was going to follow the series from now on and just read arcs when they were done.
Literally me with the Kinnikuman reboot! I waited until the Perfect Origin Arc (Which is getting an anime adaptation this coming year) was done before reading it a couple of years or so ago, at which point the Omega Centauri's Six Spear Arc was still ongoing. (Which I need to get around to reading now that it's been done for a while as well.)

Often... take out. Not much of a cook. I can do it, but I'm lazy.
My mother did give me a pie cookbook recently. Essentially in apology for not being able to make anything for Thanksgiving. We went to Perkins for Thanksgiving, probably Golden Coral or Cracker Barrell for Christmas (The extended family is hundreds of miles away).

People complain that anime is derivative...
Yes, it is. Everything is, to an extent. Some is not.
Eventually, you find the type of derivative that you are comfortable with.

This thought usually comes up when I watch some expendable stuff... like, maybe The Family Circumstances of the Irregular Witch this season. It's far from great, but some is pretty weird and funny (The insomniac Sandman, the fairies that look like butts), in essence, I watch it because it is my familiar entertainment.

General Discussion / Re: Your kind of music?
Last post by Nonsuch Ned - December 13, 2023, 10:34:39 AM
I'm an eclectic music snob.
Mainly "alternative" but I like "good" music from any genre. Rock, Pop, Dance, Rap, Country, Soul, R&B, Funk, Jazz (vocal and freeform), World, certain Gospel, I'm big into Folk/Americana (and have been a DJ for the format).
Don't listen to much classical, but don't avoid it. If anything, classic Blues turns me off the most, but if you mix it with something else- great stuff (Like Living Colour's Shade album).
I've been buying vinyl for a while now. Sitting on my "to listen to" stack is The Breeders, Iron and Wine, John Prine, PJ Harvey, The Meters, Willie Nelson and Santigold. Gotta order the new Aesop Rock album too...

I love 80s music, Classic Rock, Classical, but I primarily listen to J-POP most of the time.  My favorite Japanese band was BabyMetal.  I could get entranced watching the choreography, and I love the upbeat melodies.  Sometimes, I'll listen to techno or trance, and there was a time in my life when I was fascinated with Indian music.

I love watching anime for the strange weirdness of the Japanese culture.  I mean, some of the most remember-able scenes from anime are the strange encounters that happen.  Like Midori Days.  Imagine waking up with your hand being transformed into the upper body of a young girl?   Gender Benders are always amusing too.  Speaking of Genders, there's quite a bit of perverseness too, even if it is kinda underground.  What about the crazy adventures of Excel in Excel Saga, and the evil organization of ACROSS?

I also like watching anime for some of the food!  Japanese food is some of the tastiest, yet healthy food I've run across in my many cookbook travels.

Finally, let's not forget about the cute girls, and bright colors!  I also love a good bit of comedy, much of which doesn't exist in other forms of entertainment media such as Hollywood.  Probably because of the cultural differences.

General Discussion / What did you have for dinner?
Last post by Kokoro - December 12, 2023, 06:04:22 PM
I'm not sure if maybe I missed it, but is there a Dinner thread here?

I love cooking and baking, so I'm always looking for new and interesting stuff to try.  Like tonight, I'm making home made perogies!  What are you having tonight?

I stopped reading One Piece regularly during Wano, then read like 50 chapters once Wano ended to finish it. Decided that's how I was going to follow the series from now on and just read arcs when they were done. I mistakenly heard that Egghead had finished already, so I thought it was going to be a nice short arc like Zou. The arc isn't finished yet, and now I'm stuck in the middle of a flashback.
