Not really feeling it, They turned Tenchi in to the generic Harem MC.
However the character designs are neat at least.
I'm sure the mini-episodes are going to come together as actual episodes okay enough, but this 5 minutes a day is killing my viewing experience more than I anticipated.
The Washu tease was just mean.
I watched the two episodes subbed on animehere. I get the feeling in episode 3 that would be revealed that Washu who created the test for Tenchi,
The one thing that could sell this show to me is if it was revealed that all of the new characters are just a computer simulation that Washuu stuck Tenchi in.

Oh jeesh, after watching beginning ep3, this out-there idea now seems plausible.
I'm starting to think this will be an actual harem show <.< As in, the harem will actually expand with these new girls.
I had a hunch.
For those of you who don't want to support that other group, fansub group anime-koi is releasing the episodes.

The opening gives me the impression one of the new girls is an alien. Nice to see Washu's personnality was good in this episode.
Episode 4 up.
This episode seemed pointless. It is completely a TU Tenchi. No spine.
Probably just gonna burn through the first 6 or 7 episodes...
looking at those screenshots though, Washu looking stacked as hell. Got the chest and hips on lock.

The question is can I meet THE Ryoko if I go there?
If today's episode is any indication, the series has just killed itself. It's even worse than when MK or whoever decided a recap was needed for OAV3ep1.
QuoteImpressions:
I don't want to spoil it for anyone.... so I say the animation is better than I expected. There is less time than I expected, if the current credits hold, they only give 3.5 minutes each ep. 1 minute I guess in that 5 is for commercials. That's 175 minutes of animation. That's like 4 shorter OAV eps or 7-8 TV episodes.
Revise estimates 20% down. 40 x 3.5=140 minutes animation. Like just over 3 OAV episodes. Or 6 TV episodes. I assume the last week will have some ultra recap AMV thing or a bonus episode if we're lucky.
Back in the summer, I started out with 250 minutes for this series, 10 TV episodes, stupidly not taking commercial time into account, and it just keeps going down.
People are arguing whether this is fresh OAV offshoot or TU add-on continutiy. Idk, but I just will point out that the Washu scene on Wednesday reminded me of her role TU Time and Space Adventures (a Kuroda radio play originally), in TMiL, and TMiL2 also dealt with AU of sorts with Washu reprising that role. Washu floating on her chair playing with a Time and Space Machine seems to be Negishi's envisioned role for her. I didn't find it fresh and exciting the second time around in TMiL, the 3rd time around in TMiL2, and not on the 4th time now.
Wait? What the fuck happened? People mood shifted like a motherfucka after episode 5, was it that bad?

:staredog:
Well, I find ep. 5 to be an odd one. It reminds me of ep. 1 through 4.
Well, for some reason Tenchi is now stuck in a lowest common denominator, nonsensical, panty-shot, molestation, and torture happy, submissive S&M show which doesn't even use more than 16 minutes of new time for every 5 episodes... The one bright spot was the segment in which Washuu sent Tenchi on a multidimensional rescue mission. We'll see if that develops into anything, or whether this will overtake Tenchi In Tokyo and Nabeshin as the biggest turds ever inserted into the Tenchi Muyou franchise?
Recap episode already? Regardless of the content, this series has already just killed itself and we're not even 30 minutes in... the overall content just makes it worse as antvasima said (Which I'm giving him a +1 for in a moment). Now I'm not even bothering to watch this.
Ball's in your court Kajishima... give us something worthwhile for the series' 20th anniversary, please. The man still has about ten months to do so as that would still be the anniversary year, but like I said before... every other anime, manga, and even Tokusatsu (Power Rangers type shows) franchise with a recent anniversary season gave us something worthwhile. It would sicken my stomach to see that not happen with Tenchi. :(
You can watch episode 3 alone and none whatsoever of the other 5 first epsodes if you wish. That one was almost okay taken by itself.
AI: Tenchi Muyo sounds like it is another spinoff of the regular OVA series. It seems to combine elements of the Ryo-Ohki series and the Universe. In epsode 3, Tenchi's house is the one in the Universe series. The OVA house has a porch, and a bridge on the lake. For awhile, I will treat the setting of the series to be another dimension familiar to Tenchi Muyo: Ryo-Ohki's.
Mihoshi is on an assignment for the Galaxy Police. Washu is like her Universe counterpart.
:eyetwitch: :really:
Personally been enjoying it so far except for the inexcuseable recap episode. I've always felt recap episodes are an absolute waste of time, and to have one for four 4 minute episodes is just insane.

Wow I found a few jokes funnies. Mihoshi was kinda pointless.
Of the first four episodes, Three was the best one. Even 3 was meant mostly to be a flashback, it gives us the first hint what is likely going on. Mihoshi had made he first appearance in the fourth episode. Mihoshi's appearance states the Galaxy Police is interested in the activities going on at the school. There is a lot more going than a routine conflict between the school's student government and one of its clubs. The student club happens to be the Science Club. Now, I have notice that the tablets are a sign of the use of advanced technology.
When I had seen Mihoshi, I was expecting to see Kiyone as well. Unfortunately, Kiyone is not one of the series' characters.
:Hap: :whatif:
Well, after watching the episode, I must say that this is absolutely awful beyond all understanding. I hate all of the new characters, everything else about the setting, along with the author and AIC for producing this worm excrement to completely dishonour and defile something originally very cherished and wonderful. This tripe does the impossible and makes Tenchi In Tokyo look good in comparison. What the heck is wrong in the heads of Negishi and AIC?
As a modern anime, I think it's just par for the course ignoring the recaps. It's not Tenchi Muyo though. It's a series I will watch once through and never think about again. But it's not horrible either. Just meh.
Well, I think that most of what I have seen so far is thoroughly awful, but I'll give you that most anime seems to be mass-produced, generic, quantity over quality crap nowadays.
Nowadays? :jap:
Well, I used to like some of it. Now nearly everything that I see or hear about seems mostly bleh. Most anime seems to have lost its charm, and turned into a massive incoherent mess of bad fetischistic cliches, generic designs, or dystopian cynicism. I do like Legend Of Korra of course, but that is a western show done in anime style.
Ayeka and Sasami and Ryoko finally show up. Ayeka's new voice sounds fine and a good past match. Sasami's is also ok. Ryoko's matches, but the actress I think has hints of having gotten older, much like Tenchi himself.
:moodswing:
Finally some new animated Sasami!
:soqoot:
Why can't all the episodes be like this?
:frustrated:
I like the seventh episode. Finally, Ayeka, Sasami, and Ryoko are introduced. They three seem to be a composite of their Universe and Ryo-Ohki counterparts. As usual, Ryoko likes to intrude on Tenchii''s privacy.
Sasami is in her early teens. Her hairstyle in the series may be her choice. She is smaller than her sister Ayeka .

I decided I'm going to watch these in batches and I just finished the first four episodes. I get what you're stepping in. The main issue is the pacing; even for a four minute series of shorts the pacing is like a NASCAR race where you're going fast for a while, then there is a crash, and then you circle for a bit under the yellow. Ultimately I can tell this show is going to finish under a Green/White/Checkered flag. It's not impossible to follow, but it feels like an information overload. And what kind of school has little slits in the hips of the skirts I mean :son:
Batch two should be out Friday or Saturday and I'll be caught up then, but so far it's like an ADHD version of anime.
Tenchi, Ayeka, and Sasami have move from the Masaki Residence to a house located next to the school. Apparentily, Ryo-Ohki, Washu and Mihoshi are staying at the Residence. When it comes to Ryoko, Tenchi seems to have wished that Ryoko will continue to stay at the Masaki Resisdence.
:sas2: :why:
Despite the fact that the series as a whole so far is a gigantic mess, I watched episode 7 out of curiosity (And due to the fact that Ayeka, Sasami, and Ryoko all appeared in this episode without the new girls intruding). I'll say that if Kajishima is bringing what's left of the original voice acting crew back together for whatever project he may or may not have in mind, then Ayeka's new VA is more than passable... if it weren't already known that it wasn't her original VA, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. The new voice is that spot on... we're not worthy! :worship:
Now only if it were so easy for the English dub of OVA 3 to have been handled in such a way for Ryoko's replacement VA...

Ryoko looks pretty horrendous in this new animation. Not to mention that Momo beat her as a little kid. Does she ever win?
So does Tenchi do any fighting? Cause a friend sent me the Ryoko clip from episode 7 and that chick with the pink hair was the main one fighting her while Tench was just standing there and shit...
I mean even TU Tenchi could fight on a basic level...dafuq he just standing there for, he's more than enough to make Ryoko calm down.
No, Momo protects him there. But the next episode he stop's Beni's punch while she's fighting Hachiko..... but he seems to get bullied by Ukan throughout.
The reason he doesn't fight Ryoko might be that it's in the past and she doesn't know him, or seems to... or whatever. I really don't care. Fans are excited she appeared on the screen.... which for a Tenchi series should be a rather low bar.

Yea that's some bullshit right there, hate those kind of hijinks in harem.
He gets bullied by the horrendous generic non-characters as a running theme for this show. It is like watching a train wreck to see if anybody(/anything) you liked makes it out alive. So far it seems to have an almost 100% mortality rate. Damn Negishi, AIC, and anybody else truly responsible for this, for getting our hopes up and then puking on them.
Glimpses of a Tenchi world of bishojo spinning off-course are offered in these omake-like episodes—in these awkward-bishonen adventures of Tenchi and his unloved harem of many girls. I can't help but continue to watch more for anything more than fan service, whilst I'm unable to resist knowing what's going to happen next, especially raw dere dere interactions—what's to be with Tenchi and his tsunderellas or kuuderellas. Then again, anticipating some future hard-core yandere action, I did notice some peculiar attraction between the vaguely dojikko Momo and Tenchi with his henshin urge. Perhaps, there's something more to follow. . . Eh?

I'm so glad I found a Tenchi forum where people actually agree and acknowledge this new series is crap.
The folks @ tenchiforums think it's so great, so I stopped posting there. Couldn't take how hard they're trying to justify the cheap animation, bad designs, bad cast, etc.
The show isn't really good, but that still better than Tenchi Forever and most episodes of Tenchi Universe. :parrot:

I also liked it.
Actually I liked TMiL2 A LOT more than TMiL & most of the crap that was Universe. The only real issue I had with it were those eyes. Those hideous eyes. But the scenery, now some of those were masterpieces on par with Ghibli works. Particularly the opening first scene. The musical score was exceptional too. And so much better than the embarrassingly trashy anime music associated with most Tenchi soundtracks.
Yea, the OVAs only look better IMO because of the blu ray release, but the movie artwork is just outstanding and definitely big budget. Easily trumps some old early 90s cel art work. I also love the soundtrack. Normally the melodrama gets on my nerves but it wasn't really over the top here which worked pretty well. In fact, other than the parts of Ryoko and Ayeka doing those dimension jumps, it was a pretty down to earth chill movie.
Welcome to the board. :)
Another recap? All I can do right now is quote a particular doctor and say that as far as this series goes, "I'm done here." :doom:
Also, welcome aboard sumduud! :)
Btw: I liked Tenchi Muyo In Love 1, and I at least liked Tenchi Universe considerably better than this show. The main cast was distorted, yes, but at least the show was mostly focused on them, and Time&Space Adventures was based on OVA audio dramas, so it was almost like bonus OVA episodes.
At first, the events of Episode 8 seem not to go along with the main part of the story. Episode 8 shows what is a result of the mess cause by Washu's experiment. Tenchi has travel back to what's seems to be Edo Period Japan. Tenchi may have travel to another dimension in which it seems to be in the Edo Period. Mihoshi's arrival during the last minute confirms that Tenchi is likely still in the present. Tenchi has been sent by Washu to seek out what is happening in the past. Yet, Tenchi is likely in another dimension effected by the effects of Washu's experiment.
The series is turning out to be a composite of TM: Ryo-Ohki, Universe, and Tenchi in Tokyo. It seems that the producers are honoring all three series. At the center of the plot, one of Washu's experiments had gone astray. The results of the experiment is at the center of the series' plot. The setting of the series is sometime after Tenchi had graduated form college.
In episode 9, Tenchi has brought his sword TENCHI with him to school. The Science Club has a feud with the Student Council. Tenchi is able to stop the fight as a result of his experiences with Ryoko and Ayeka fights over the years.
Still, I am wondering about the experiment which has cause the mess described in the series. Episode 8 describes what may be happening in another dimension. Tenchi is in the area of the Masaki Estate.

One of the few things I like about this series is the new girls getting feelings for Tenchi:
Too bad the new girls don't interest me in the slightest :/
What Zigra said. Theyhave thin bland personalities, and unattractive generic designs. I like the mature women looks and interesting strong likeable personalities that Masaki Kajishima brings to his female characters.
Of the new girls, I think Momo, Hachiko, and Beni are magnetic in their own ways. They stand out as though they ought to be main characters, whereas the other girls are not so charming and should be supporting characters. . . Just my opinion.
I have just seen the raw version of Episode 12. The series seems to be a jigsaw puzzle in which episode is a piece. Episode 12 starts out with the Edo Period part. The Edo Period part is suppose to be about Tenchi being sent to the past. Yet, Tenchi was sent to another universe. In this universe, the Edo Period has not come to an end. I believe that the Edo Period part is a result of the effects of Washu's experiment.
Now, Tenchi has to deal with a giant robot which was used in a past featival. I have expected Tenchi to start using his sword the Tenchi. Tenchi seems to thinking about how to deal with the robot first without using his sword TENCHI.

I have just seen episode 14. Ryoko tries to cook a meal for Tenchi with some very EXOTIC ingrediants. Ryoko is likely a good cook. For the moment, she should let Ayeka and Sasami teach her how to cook.
Sasami is likely able to go to the school where Tenchi is a student teacher at. I had suspected that Sasami was a junior high school student. It is turning out that she is likely a high school freshman. Sasami is using an instrument from the movie MEN IN BLACK.

So far there's something again missing in these episodes. The absence of other guys, especially those showing a strong attraction towards the girls, sometime makes me doubt the existence of true feelings in TM! Tenchi and the girls may like one another, but do they actually love one another? Tenchi may be willing to sacrifice somehow for the girls, but does he necessarily love them? Or does he just feel that caring for/helping/defending them is the right thing to do? What's the point of it all?
On the one hand, watching him getting pushed around, I think Tenchi is a generic male courtesan of sorts. On the other hand, Tenchi is a false shepherd, and girls are his false sheeps. What does the false shepherd do with his false sheeps? He follows them, as they lead to nowhere. . . and vice versa at intervals.
Whilst the girls may compete with one another for Tenchi, Tenchi compete with no one for the girls. Tenchi must prove his character's worth, showing his reason for existence. Then again, Tenchi's true identity makes the whole story meaningless. Tenchi's harem story is ever so weak, lame. . .
C'mon! More action, drama, and angst! More with raw feeling! :damn:
I liked Tuesday's ep, but mostly for Ayeka, and then Hachiko and Momo getting sweet on Tenchi.

Looks like it's getting worse as it goes further along... every fifth episode being pretty much confirmed to be a recap doesn't help at all. That means that the final episode will also be a recap, which is not a proper way to close ANY series - anime or not - in my book.
At this point, all I can say is that we NEED a miracle to happen in the form of a Kajishima directed or endorsed anime, or else this franchise is as good as dead. Not saying that I'm not appreciating what Kaj has given us thus far, but it seems that the time to step up and do something huge in the right manner is now or never.

Negishi keeps outdoing himself in finding new reasons for me to hate this tripe.
+1 because this is so true. If I were allowed to, I'd actually +2 you for this one. There's no excuse for such a good franchise to be treated like horse manure, no matter what the circumstances are. Yes, we all know that this piece of junk series is an AU, but still... bottom line is that they're doing it wrong even for an AU.

Did Tenchi get struck in the head or is that NOT Not Washu? Because after that he wonders why they looked so familiar, and now I'm wondering if he's retarded, had a lobotomy, or someone made him forget.
