Title: I visited a ghost town (3spooky5u)
Post by: Ryokos Stepdad on October 28, 2013, 07:55:12 PM
Today I decided since it's almost Halloween, I went to go visit a ghost town just outside of Aspen.

Ashcroft was a mining town set up in the 1880's because of a discovery of a silver vein near there. It didn't last long due to over-estimation of the lode, the crash of silver near the turn of the century, and Aspen far out-performing Ashcroft  :son: It was essentially abandoned around the 1950's and was added to the register of historic places in the 70's  :woop: You can read more about it here:

There's dozens of abandoned mine towns and ski resorts all across the Colorado Rockies. I hope soon I'll be able to explore more of them. There's another small ghost town just off of CO 82 but it is inaccessible for the winter and it's not very big. Who knows?  :speculate:

At the very least, it would be a nice place to kill myself should it ever come to that.  :shepicide:
