Stargate

Out of pure curiosity, any Stargate fans among you all?

I took a break from Trek and started Stargate SG-1 after watching the original 1994 film for the first time in about a decade. And promptly got sucked in, currently in season seven.  (Because, apparently, trading one long-running science fiction franchise for another is something I tend to do...)

For the most part, I approved of the TV series' recasting choices. Though I still prefer James Spader's Daniel Jackson to Michael Shanks, admittedly. Recasting Kurt Russell with Richard Dean Anderson as Jack O'neil was brilliant though, IMO.  RDA Jack is probably one of my favorite male leads to date.

Don't really know much about Stagate as a whole, but every now and then a few years ago, I'd catch episodes of SG1 on the Sci-Fi channel I believe before it came Syfy. I do know its one of the many many shows I plan to take another look at again if it ever gets on Netflix or Hulu. Hell, it might be already, but with this summer coming and no more basketball to watch, I should have more time to catch up and watch new stuff. I do remembering enjoying most of the SG-1 episodes I've seen though.

ISTR, Hulu and Netflix had it at one time, but it's since been removed for whatever reason. You might have to resort to other means.

To be honest, I avoided watching it for years purely due to its length.... (Ten seasons, whee!)

LOL

It is the third longest-running sci-fi TV franchise behind Doctor Who and Star Trek, so...

The funny thing was that it outlived its orignal storyline about the gou'ld, the casting I agree was good, I remember the orignal movie and was very doubtful about Richard Dean Anderson at first (I knew nothing about the guy's past) but I thought his performance was very good. Samantha Carter was also surprisingly 3-dimensional character,  espacilly when you consider the TV shows after her character debut (1997) that seem to rely on skintight clothing and clevleage when needed. I'm not saying the show was perfect because atlantis and star gate universe were faltering as they were guilty of just throwing in human-like race everywhere, even more then star trek! But it was fun to watch and they seemed to keep the cgi at a good level.

(Still think Hammond is Scully's dad!)

I just started Battlestar Galactica.

Haha! The various Star Trek guest stars is what gets me... the first time I watched "Prometheus" I was all "Wait a second, did MacGyver just throw Q out of an airlock?".

The original or the remake?

Also, just finished SG-1 season eight and now Jack has left the show. A moment of silence please while Morgeil mourns the absence of her current TV boyfriend. :neg:
