I picked these two up for a mere 10bucks. Unfortunately the sketches are stuck to the paint, just like my other Sasami cel. But these ones are pretty interesting, as the closeup shot is actually two layers. And both cels have AIC stamped into the celluloid sheets. Which you cannot see in these pictures because my scanner is not big enough to completely scan them.

Ooh nice.

Tenchi cells are getting cheap.  I guess their collectibility for anything but the prominent poses are going the way of the telephone card in japan?  (That's one fad that died fast).

Honestly, I'd say that the majority of cels have likely declined in value due to people not storing them properly. There's still some cels worth big bucks, like some key scenes involving Deedlit. But they're far & few between. Thou it could simply be that we're all too used to the price gouging ebayers think they can get away with.

Vectorized the closeup, not sure if I'll bother with the other cel. For this one I used a filter to increase the line width before vectorization because the lines were too thin after vectoring. Also deleted the sketch visible in the background and bleached everything in the background. Aside from that, it was simply adding touch-ups & solidifying colors. The end result came out pretty damn good, if I don't say so.

What filter do you use to increase line width?  I frequently run into this problem with online cells.  They look great in the pics and then 95+% vector like garbage.

BTW, that vector is pretty awesome.  It's exactly how i wish the cells I find would come out.  Any other tricks to get away stuff like the gray and other lines, or just a bunch of editing?

Honestly, it's all about the resolution. If it's got a descent enough resolution, it seems to vector ok for me. But I always have to solidify colors, especially around the edges, where the paint meets. The outline bleeding always produces mismatched tones, for me. Then the rest is simply editing and a little trial & error.

This is the first time I used the line enhancement gimmick, inside shop it was this: filter tab > other > minimum > adjust pixel radius value

Also noticed another nice filter for anyone wanting to try painting their own cels: filter > stylize > find edges

That trick would have come in handy when I vectored my first cel, as they required a number of lines redrawn in shop, so it would vector without producing really thin broken lines. Which you can see the difference in these two comparisons.

Just did the other one, but it came out pretty crappy and I wasn't in the mood to do a lot of serious editing. So I just darkened all of the lines and solidified all of the colors. Good enough, for a cel I don't particularly like.
