"when did we say you are toys?"

"Well, you cause us fortune and misfortune at your little whim, not caring how we feel about it!  Is that fair?"

[Trace Carter]

"hey!" said Z in offense, "I only cause misfortune that benefits people in the long run."

[paladin313]

Belldandy stepped in as the force of reason and said, "It is not that.  Sometimes, fortune and misfortune happen by natural occurrence.  Furthermore, misfortune and fortune are no respecter of persons.  People ask why bad things happen to good people, but the truth is, bad things happen to bad people just as much, it is just you do not always see it that way.  When bad things happen to bad people, people call it their just desserts.  Yet, fortunes do not care about good or bad.  What we do is provide a balance in all that.  Sometimes misfortune proves to make you stronger, and fortune can teach one to be humble.  In your brother's case, you have to know the star of misfortune shined on him far more than what should have."
     "I can remember that," she said, "All that seemed to change with you."
     Belldandy smiled and said, "Yes, because I was a part of the Goddess Relief Office.  Our job is to offer wishes to those like your brother.  However, in watching him, no matter what happened to him, he always looked for the positive and never lashed out.  He made do and did all he could to be happy despite that.  Not only did I want to help him, his heart made me fall in love with him.  Therefore, when the time came, I was more than happy to grant his wish, but it ended up more than for what I could have hoped, and everything I had wished."
     "Well, you did seem to want to get out of it at first, wanting to call home to see why this had been approved," Kei added.
     "True, but it just seemed it was unusual that such would be granted," she answered.
     "Still, I did ask for a goddess like you."
     "There is no other goddess like her," answered Urd, "Therefore, it had to be her."
     Kei looked at Bell and said, "You're right: no one could replace her!"

Z chuckled

"So, you're saying gods can fall in love?"

[Trace Carter]

"how do you think ian and I were born," said Z, "though my mom is far from a god."

[paladin313]

"But...what would their children be like?"

[Trace Carter]

"look at ian and you'll get your answer."

[paladin313]

She just sat there, taking it all in and she said, "This is all so wild.  I have so many weird questions, and then feel foolish, because they would be questioning the will of the gods."

[Trace Carter]

"just ask them," said Z, "no such thing as a stupid question."

[paladin313]

"Well, for one, why does the almighty allow so much suffering?"

[Trace Carter]

"It's balance," said Z, "though the gods and goddesses maintain fortune, if that was all there was, things wouldn't be good.  there wouldn't be things that could have been made through mistakes.  The telephone would have been made much later because the creator wouldn't have spilled acid on his pants, forcing him to test the headset to call his aide.  Cancer and radiation might not have been discovered because Marie Curie wouldn't have been injured by the radiation she was experimenting with.  Martin Luther King Jr wouldn't be famos because there would be no need for a civil rights movement.  the world needs balance."

"Yep, humans wouldn't be able to grow and become stronger if everything was fine for them." Skuld added in.

[paladin313]

"It also has a lot to do with the almighty allowing mankind free will," he answered, "He created beings to love him because they chose to, not because they had to, but in allowing that, he had to make allowance for bad choices."
