About 3/4 of the way through the race, cars started to duck into the pits, and by this point, Proter had almost gained back all the distance he lost, and now opened throttle as the others went into the pit.  By the time they all came out, (those who pitted,) he was 3/4 of a lap ahead, and was comfortably in the lead when the checkered came down.  Soon, calculations were being made, and race positions for Sunday were being announced.  It turned out that Proter got the pole position, but Keiichi was given the third spot, front row, on the outside of the track.

Z sighed, "looks like I'll have a hard time deciding who to cheer for tomorrow,"

The barbecue was cooking its share, and everyone on the team was cheering when the announcement was made.  Kei may have not got the pole, but he was in the front row to start the race.  If he played his cards right, he could take the early lead.

Z went to join them with a troubled look on his face.

Ian and Kei's mom were working the barbecue as Ian saw Z.  He flipped a couple of steaks and said, "Why so glum, chum?"

(I believe Keiichi's mother's name is Takano)

(Thank you.)

"I don't know whether to support my mom's team or Keiichi's," Z sighed

"Well, I thought you were working for our pit crew?"
Fear is ignorance expressed through panic.

"yes, but I'm truly afraid to think how mom would react if I supported her opponents." said Z, "she's scary when she's angry."

"Who's to say she'd be angry.  From what I can tell, she's kind of playing both sides and attempting to have it all to her advantage."
Fear is ignorance expressed through panic.

"I don't know," said Z, "part of me doesn't want to disappoint her, but the rest of me is loyal to my friends.  It's like having two conflicting personalities."

"How about just being yourself and letting the chips fall where they may?"
Fear is ignorance expressed through panic.

"I am being myself," said Z, "in all honesty I would prefer to remain neutral."

"Then do it.  Recuse yourself from the team and go watch in the stands.  Root for who you want.  I don't see any chains around you."
