Problems with the GXP Novel translations

Hi everyone. I wanted to post here for the first time to let you know the problems I have with the translations of the Tenchi Muyo GXP light novels from a user on here. At first I only had the first machine translated editions from nyaa, but I realized there were updated ones from the Tenchi Muyo Translation Blog. I thought that the most glaring issue, that being the way the translator kept omitting parts that he thought weren't good or important to the story, would stop but clearly I was wrong. Just because you don't like a part or think it doesn't matter, doesn't mean I shouldn't be able to read it myself.

Feel free to elaborate on what you're talking about.
"Growing up leads to growing old and then to dying, and dying to me don't sound like all that much fun."

Well it's moments like these where he freely admits to cutting out huge parts of the story that he thought were "pointless" or "too long". Like, "getting from point A to point B" shouldn't be the point of reading.

I just don't know why he didn't have another fan translator help him out on this to get better context and less clunky wording.

Ya know, you can always do what I did.

I bought GXP 17, scanned it, OCR'd it, and then went though all 400+ pages verifying EVERY character in the book OCR'd properly. Then I spent most of a year actually translating it. It's been through a couple of editions as I've found and fixed various mistakes. Oh, I also did the Paradise War series from scratch. In fact, I've already ordered GXP 18 and will be starting that whole cycle again when it shows up in mid-June.

I've also been working my way through the Nontan Project interviews as I've been curious for years what was actually discussed in them. Add to that I'm also scanning and translating whatever comes out of the most recent Comiket.

Feel free to jump in and start working on any of the novels you have an issue with.

If it jams, force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway!

Thinking about it, I realize just how much work Eff put into the GXP series. I've had the advantage of translation sites that have a much better grasp on Japanese then when Eff was doing it. Occasionally, a whole page will machine translate and not require any modifications.

I mean guilty I openly admit to it. Wouldn't say their huge portions. I'd say it's a sentence here n there and then a few clucking hen scenes ( a scene where the girls go I at seina no I want seina) and the large reason I cut things out was because I had 20 something novels to translate, the main plot points were more nessessary to get to for the sake of clearing up continuity for the fandom. Often the lines were nonsensical in the translater and broken apart and I made a lot of commentary originally, so I figured someone would eventually go back and fill it in down the line. But for the sake of readability I ended up erasing most of my commentary over the many many revisions.

I'm still hoping someday we get full professional releases. But till then my release is what it is. The best effort of one person who can half read Japanese half read Google translate giving you as much as he can. It took 3+ years of my free time to translate all that and I knew what was there I really don't have to even go into that much detail I just did for others sake. So enjoy it or don't but it's free .I'm not going to take requests on the output. It's a done project for me. Your comments are a fair assessment. You should've read the true tenchi novel summaries we got before I came in and did my thing. One was very accurate event by event but pure japenglish and the englishyer ones were all sorts of poorly inaccuratly summarized and omissive you'd pop a blood vessel if you think my works sloppy haha that's said it thought bob was supposed to retranslate an add those spots back in in his revisions but i guess he never got round to it and like again volunteer labor so, not gonna fret it. Anyone is free to submit translations of parts I missed and I'll add the changes

Well, I had planned to do them after I saw what the first chapter of GXP 15 had to offer. I took a look at the Acha's dance scene and you were right, it was pretty creepy. I still have it on my list of things to do, but I'm working on the Nontan stuff right now. After the June release of GXP 18, I'll dump everything for that! I really want to see where he goes with it.

Man that reminds me I can't believe how long ago it actually was that I did those translations started in late 2015 it's coming up on 10 years... Can't believe it's been 7 since the last novel I just got it the other day in my head.  I appreciate the feedback back newbie but for perspective this is a long long over project for me. If there's a section I cut that your curious about you can just ask here I'll fish it up from the raws I have lying around so someone can get it translated. Tbh I'm happy anyone has comments on it cause honestly nearly no one was reading it when I was doing it and it was frustrating.

I read it twice and made notes on the second readthrough, but never got around to commenting on it.

For example, I believe it would be noteworthy of making mention that in GXP2 they're talking about Precivilization Earth, the same Earth Dual took place on. Then in GXP13 Seina lands on Precivilization Mars, which I first thought was a resource stripped Earth, but I'm fairly certain is Mars. And this is why Zinv was inside the remains of an entombed spaceship.

Another thing of note, I'm not sure which volume, Kenneth and Raiju are talking about the Astral Sea, they may have hinted at how Tenchi, Misaki or possibly a yet unknown god-like existence came into being. Like the higher dimensional being we're introduced to in Kajishima's conceptual -If- series doujinshi, which appears loosely tied to Masquerade.

And as an added bonus, I noticed that in a GPX8 b&w image Ringo looks an awful lot like Ifurita. Which upon noticing this similarity makes her waking up inside a shipping container all the more amusing.

Love tenchi especially the Kajishima continuity rabbit hole of lore and characters.
Only just found this forum. For a year I have been working in my free time to try to be able to translate the GXP Novels inspired by the latest OVAs. The planned release of 18 sparked excitement. Checked out Eff Efferson's translations (bless you man) and had fun. Your online work was great. (Though The link to this forum site is not working 5-5-25 but helped lead me here)

My raws are scanilated images and then converted to text. I have been driving myself cross-eyed, proofing to assemble the text correctly. I've got volume 1 done (raw working on translating)but if anybody has other raws already in text format (RTF I think?) I would be thankful. Thanks to anyone who wants to help

... My guy. You are approaching this the way every one else approached this. And that was is the worst Way. The reason my project was so quick and sucessfull was because we used the ebook version stripped of furigana then English translated the names so the translators don't misinterpret the proper nouns. So yeah I got you. The only time we scanlate here is in bulk professionally or with Google drive when we have
