Feels like a lot of misplaced effort for what will amount to a fanfic brought to life. But I guess that's their dream.

I just saw some of the reward tiers. Spending that much on a VHS tape in 2026?  :christ:

Also just to be clear for the people that don't post here that are looking in, I'm not sure why people here think we are "Canon only series" I haven't met anyone on here or discord that didn't like every thing to some extent but had a favorite among them. Hell we even had a few new members join us cuz Ai Tenchi was the first thing they saw. We talk about the canon/ova the most because that's what gets new content and happens to be a lot of peoples favorites.

I would suggest to people try thinking on your own instead of what other autists on the internet tell you. Everyone is welcome here.

Quote from: Ryo-Okay on July 07, 2026, 09:53:07 PMI have zero hope for this. Say they get the funding and actually make a short or a pilot, nobody is going to fund a series. Industry professionals have had successful crowdfundings for animation and failed to deliver. AIC tried to do crowdfunding a few years ago and failed. I don't know why Armiger thinks they will be able to deliver.

I pitched in to their kickstarter for the American Tenchi comic last year because it seemed like something they could deliver on. It was funded, I received it, and I'm pretty happy with it. On that kickstarter they talked about making a new comic, and I don't know why they didn't just do that. Doing a kickstarter for a Tenchi mini-series or a graphic novel is much more realistic than trying to do animation. If they were dead set on eventually trying to make an anime a comic would have been a good stepping stone. Tell the story you want as a comic then try to adapt it later down the line.

Going from reprinting a 30 year old comic to trying to fund an anime is such a huge leap that I can only see it being a disaster.

Yeah they said they wanted to do more comic issues based on Calderon's ideas that never came to fruition, and I assumed that would be their next project. I think the fact that they got triple their fundraising goal for the omnibus gave them the idea that they can fund whatever they want, so they're going right for the big game and making their own anime series. If Negishi, Miura, and AIC are doing most of the work as far as production is concerned, that could work. Then again, Negishi also made Ai Tenchi Muyo; he doesn't always know what he's doing.

It'll get funded, Nostalgia is a strong thing here.  I have reservations about the mockup art, but if it's made in Japan, they might just ignore it more or less entirely other than a few concepts.

The more Tenchi remakes and sequels I see, the more I stick to just OAV1 and 2, Mihoshi Special and Achika from TMiL being the exceptions.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but why should Tenchi/Ryoko give two shits about an artifact stolen from Jurai? Did everyone forget that the first episode of Universe is Tenchi recounting everything that took place within Universe? As Tenchi beat the villain, saved the princess and aside from the one person we're tricked into believing died, everyone returned home. There's no actual connection to Jurai, just the descendants of people that abandoned their homeland.

If you wanna waste a bunch of money securing the original cast, for a nostalgia jerk, I think you're going about it all wrong. Don't ignore the unexplained part of Universe, which is how/why everyone that left came crawling back. Instead, build off a story that picks off from Tenchi & Ryoko's reunion. What if you used this to introduce Minagi, in animated form? A story revolving around Tenchi, Ryoko and her clone would cut costs significantly and could be used to explain that missing element of Universe's movie continuations.

You're welcome to do what you want, but introducing a random disposable character for the cast to plow through and a weak premise aren't going to sell tickets. Not that there are any to sell, mind you. But I'm sure you understand what I'm getting at, even if you don't like it.

I don't want to hijack the thread here but I'll say this as the owner/admin: In general I don't support kickstarters but if you are wanting to support this I sugguest the following.

1. Ask questions, If the answer doesn't satisfiy then don't give them money
2. Find out who is behind the project (within reason don't doxx) and what sort of resume they have to back doing this
3. If possible become an investor instead who gets a return on the project instead of a donator

In general the above can be applied to all kickstarter type projects.

But as far as "Useless Tenchi"'s stance on this kickstarter goes I'd say there isn't one. I don't have the information to tell you if this is good or bad but will let you decide. I will say if Armiger was willing to extend an olive branch to certain people they may get the funding that they want and more, but that isn't for me to decide. Ether way I don't have any real beef with anyone in this community personally since a lot of the issues were from a long time ago.

With that being said people are allowed to have their opnions in this thread.

Tho it's been time time since I glanced at Kaji's latest conceptual spinoff, I believe it's loosely tied to Masquerade. Which in turn probably took place on the pre-galactic civilization Earth (Earth1, Dual), the remains of which is located in Renza.

Which would make a lot of sense, as this spinoff could be the plotline that explains how another 1st generation seed ended up on Earth1 without Tsunami's involvement. Meaning the green chick is another higher level dimensional being. It'd also add a bit of context to the green tenchiken used in Anata Dake.
