"That was Kara," said Z, "she's an old friend that is staying here and working for Mara at the store."

[paladin313]

"She finds it strange that I would want to conceal the other half of myself.

[Trace Carter]

"She's a demon so she cares less of how humans view her," said Z.

[paladin313]

"No offense," said Jean-Claude, "But sometimes, your deals, no matter how good they are, seem to have those strings attached to them.  I mean, you didn't demand much of me, but the consequences of me knowing has me access of things to which maybe I should not have known yet."

[Trace Carter]

"I can assure you, my deals aren't filled with hidden motives." said Z, "and it's better to know early and begin training to be ready later."

[paladin313]

"I didn't say they were," he said, "But the nature of what is offered doesn't come with a description of the possible outcome of what happens when you get what you want."

[Trace Carter]

"the future isn't set in stone, so how can we tell people exactly what to expect when they choose to make bargans?"

[paladin313]

"Certainly, even granting people what they want can bring misery."

[Trace Carter]

"and giving people what they want is the job of goddesses and demons.  we just get different things from the deals."

[paladin313]

"But so do they."

[Trace Carter]

"what do you mean?" asked Z

[paladin313]

"From what I can gather, goddesses give them what they wish for, demons give them what they thought they wanted."

[Trace Carter]

"We give people what they ask for.  if someone asks for something, they get it.  we just don't mention what could happen if they get it."

[paladin313]

"And that's how you cause misery," he said, "And dare I say, it is instinctive."

[Trace Carter]

"I'll take that as a compliment," said Z.
