Will Tenchi have a boy or girl?

Tenchi does have a son with Washu.  The name of Tenchi's and Washu's son is unknown. Sometime in the future, Tenchi's and Washu's son will have a relationship with Masaki. Masaki is the sister of Jurai's first King.

It will make sense for Tenchi to have sons.  At the present time, Tenchi has only one confirmed son. I do speculated that one of the conditions imposed by Ayeka's father to allow Tenchi to married Ayeka and Sasami is to name is Tenchi naming Ayeka's and his first son after Azusa's father, Kazuki.  Tenchi's and Ayeka's first child is a girl.

A propose name for one of Tenchi's daughters should be after his mother Kiyone.  Since Ryoko has Tenchi's first child and daughter, the daughter's name is likely Kiyone.

Hey guys.

Just wanted to chime in here: It's always been blatantly obvious that the male:female ratio - at least on Jurai - is heavily skewed towards the female side.

I would say that on average it'd be about 1:3 for the general populace, and 1:5 in the royal families.

And really, when you stop and think about it, it's advantageous if you're trying to get your numbers up.  From what I understand, the pirate guild that was the original iteration of the Royal Houses of Jurai were pretty much on their last legs.  So it would make sense if they modified their genetics just a tad so the male:female ratio would be skewed like that.

At least, that was the impression I got.  Please correct me if I'm wrong.

This would explain why House Masaki came dangerously close to becoming extinct - not enough boys being born to carry on the line.

As to why they wouldn't change it back....  Would you?  :smug:

Besides, I really do dig the dynamic this provides.  While it is nominally a patriarchy, that's just on the surface.  In all reality, it's the women who are in charge - this is plainly evident when the Masaki Clan on Earth all get together to welcome Reia into their ranks, and promptly start plotting out her's and Noboyuki's future.  Meanwhile, the men have their own little meeting, and it's mostly, "I can only imagine what's going on in there."  "Oh, I got a good idea.  Whether you like it or not depends..." :babble:

Chose love over the throne?  When they have the ability to more or less add whoever they like to the pool of sister-wives?  No, seriously.  If it matters enough, they'll allow it.  We see this when Seto just off-hand decided to adopt Mashisu...

Quote from: Wikipedia
When Misao wanted to have Mashisu with him for his portion of the punishment (ten years working in one of the family's ventures, however only one's spouse is allowed to go to the family venture), she was dismissed by Mikamiís brother Minami Kuramitsu as "unworthy". However, Seto, who was also present, offered to adopt Mashisu so that she could marry Misao. This part was confirmed when Misao and Mihoshi's mother Mitoto (mop in hand) showed up and informed everyone that she got the Kuramitsu Family's counsel to accept the marriage.

Sauce: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Tenchi_Muyo!_supporting_characters#Mashisu_Makibi

It was barely even political.  Seto did it just to make the kid happy.  Of course, I'm sure she had other motivations as well, such as making further ties to the Kuramitsu family, but keep in mind we're dealing with a Woman of the Kamiki House here.  (In other words, look at how Misaki turned out.  You honestly think the woman that raised her to be like that is NOT gonna take pity on someone in the name of love?)  And besides, the political tie is completely superfluous because of Tenchi marrying Mihoshi - with him being in line for becoming Emperor someday, and Mihoshi having once been in the running to be the next head of her family someday, it's a power couple in the making.  Especially if Washu somehow manages to restore Mihoshi's mind.*

So the idea that romance was the reason they all abdicated?  It doesn't pan.  Not entirely.  If people abdicated, it's more likely that was because they didn't want obligations to the throne affecting their personal and family lives, as opposed to having to marry someone they had no real romantic attachments to.  Because believe me, if this were the case, then Seto would have definitely have found someone to fit the bill.  She wasn't their matchmaker just for shits and giggles - it was a goddamn JOB.

So, in light of your comment...  Yeah, a little bit.  It was definitely the case for Azusa's parents.  But that was only their own future to decide, because they couldn't do a damn thing about Seto coming in like a wrecking ball and completely taking control of their son's life!**

* = Keep in mind, I don't think it would actually change Mihoshi all that much.  Mashisu (or was it Misao?) once commented that before The Incident, Mihoshi was one of their favorites because of how much she'd make everyone laugh.  She'd just become scary-competent when it was time to make the effin' donuts.

** = And thus you run into one of my favorite head canons of the Tenchi-verse: it's a far less painful fate to willingly and knowingly serve the Devil Princess of Jurai and keep her amused that way than to resist her and become her plaything anyways!

This is from the 12.12 ban.

I think that Mihoshi gets fixed up sometime around OAV 3 ended but before the Kenshi Timeskip in OAV 4.

This scene looks like it is before the wedding, and with Ryo-Ohki's age it might be around the time Kenshi is born.

Her mind issues might be resolved when we see her in OAV 5.

I want OVA 5 to focus more of the Masaki Family.   There are more members  of the Masaki Family living outside of Masaki Village.  Oddly, the majority of residents in the village are female.  It is likely that most of the Masaki males work in other parts of Okayama Prefecture and  Japan. They only travel back to the village for specific reasons like family obligations.

The family has a strong Matriarch and a strong Patriarch.  The Matriarch is Aiki while the Patriarch is Katsuhito. The Masaki Family is one of Japan's oldest clans.  Due to the family's reasons for staying mostly in the background of Japanese national affairs,  it has evolved in Japan's most powerful clan.

My ideal for the main plot of OVA 5 is focus on the Jurain Royal House of Amaki wanting to end its long bitter rivalry between the Masaki House and The Amaki.  The Amaki house is going to continue to the rival of the Masaki House.  The only way for the Amaki House and the Masaki House to end their bitter rivalry is an arranged marriage.  The Jurain Royal Family  does use the practice of arranged marriages for political reasons.  The present Head of the Amaki House travels to Earth to arranged a marriage between one of his children and Tenchi's.  Since most of Tenchi's daughters are in love with most of Seina's sons,  Tenchi will have to arranged a marriage between one of his sons and one of the Amaki Head's daughters.

The main villain of OVA 5 is a member of the House of Amaki who is strongly opposed to the betrothal. The villain only wants to discredited the present Head of the House of Amaki. If the villain is a member of the House of Amaki, we can get a strong chance to learn more about  Jurian politics.  Another ideal for OVA 5 focuses on the Kuramitsu Family.  OVA 5 needs to disclose the government structure of the Seniwan Empire. While the Seniwan may have a royal family, it is more likely that the Kuramitsu Family is the main ruling family of the Seniwan Empire.

I hope we see Tenchi's wedding, but I'm not really expecting it. The first episode is obviously going to be Kenshi and Rea focused, and it will be jumping through time since we see young Rea, Rea and baby Kenshi just after childbirth, toddler Kenshi being taken care of by Washu, and child Kenshi with Ryo-ohki. Now that Kajishima doesn't seem to care about going in chronological order though he could slip in a wedding episode any time.

Rather than "fix" I think they just did some adjustments to Mihoshi. At least according to the 12.12 ban doujin, it says that she becomes mischievous depending on the size of the ribbon she wears on her hair. Note that she has a tiny ribbon on the image, implying the smaller the ribbon the more mischievous, while the larger the ribbon the more ditzy she is. It might work the same way as that maru-maru-kun we see Washu placing on Noike's daughter (who seemed incapable of showing facial emotions well). I'm just curious as to what happens if there's no ribbon at all on Mihoshi.

As for Tenchi and Seina's children I think Kajishima would be or would have to be editing some stuff he already showed on his IF ban doujins regarding the kids. Probably not too much though. I assume this because GXP is still ongoing and it is apparent by the novels that Seina will have like 20+ wives and many of those women aren't even featured in the IF ban doujins. I also assume that Minaho will be one of those 20+, assuming by the fact that the GXP novels have been linking her HARD towards Seina to the point that she herself decides to go after Seina even though she was presented as a side character level at the very least (ah yes, the problem that comes with having too many main characters). I must say, I ship her as part of the Seina harem though. It was kinda awkward how many people from the English speaking side of the fandom saw OVA4 and just assumed Tenchi x Minaho was a thing when the whole episode was about Minaho being Tenchi's new mother figure instead.

Anyway, assuming by the image we see on OVA5's announcement it would be feasible for the setting to be post Renza Fed Arc of GXP and would be mostly, if not all about Kenshi's "training" prior to Geminar. I wouldn't put too much hope on further developing Tenchi and Co. since I think the sponsors of the studio would rather just put their money on completing the connection to Geminar.

Right, from what I remember of the GXP novel images, I believe that Jovia Jovis was introduced on the planet where everyone looks like something out of myth and folklore. Please correct me if she was introduced in the doujins.

I'm assuming that she becomes part of Seina's harem, considering it's his story, and several harem candidates' identities haven't been revealed yet.

What's baffling to me is that Kiriko has been featured in the promo material, even Karen's name is listed in the credits, but Seina is nowhere to be found. It seems that part of the first episode at least will feature Kenshi's upbringing. Seems weird to me to have more GXP characters/elements, without GXP's protagonist.
